Happy Birthday to Prince Charles. He turned 60 today, and it got me thinking about whether the poor old bugger is ever going to be King. I mean, his Mum (Our Liz) is knocking on at 82, and Charlie MUST have thought he would be pimping it in all that ermine by now. I'm not suggesting for one minute that he wants his Mum to die, but you can bet he's had brief thoughts about it while him and Camilla are watching Corrie at Clarence House, and drifted off wistfully.
The thing is, he's spent nearly all of his life in preparation for becoming King, and when you think he was born in 1948, when the life expectancy for a white female was 72 (I've done my research), he would have been banking on 10 years of stamps with his head on by now. He may have even thought about what money would look like with his visage on. Contemplated the introduction of a £5 coin, and it being nicknamed a "Charlie." Or is that just the sort of stuff I think about?
But, I wonder, does he want to be king by this point? I mean, he's not going to get too long a run at it now, is he. QE2 has that "Gran" thing about her, you know, it's hereditary. The Queen Mother was 196 when she died (Ok, I didn't do much research). So if Liz keeps going in a similar vane, Charlie might be lucky if he gets 15 minutes on the job. I bet he's just happy to potter along with the love of his life and earning a stupid amount of money for doing so. Remember the Duchy of Cornwall earns him £16.3million PROFIT a year!
So it's your choice, face on stamps, or wealth totaling £346million, without taking into account any property he owns! After all, stamps are only 28p.
